Located just outside Killeen, Texas, Robert Gray Army Airfield was a World War II training and operational airfield used by the United States Army Air Forces. In 1946 the airfield was turned over to the newly created United States Air Force. The airfield served as a staging ground for military flights into Central and South America during the early years of the Cold War. In 1963 Robert Gray was closed and turned over to Fort Hood. Today the airfield is used by the U.S. Army Reserve as a Joint Base Lewis - McChord training center and reservist housing area.
